Dear Fellow Pastors, Elders and Church Leaders;
Before we get off on the wrong foot, please understand that I do not have the answer to the problem that I am addressing to you in this letter.
I have sent this letter and a copy of a sermon that I gave this past Sabbath regarding “Unity of the Spirit” to each of you as leaders in your congregations to ask if you can shed some light on the topic that I am addressing.
Here is the question: If Christ returned today and set up the Kingdom of God where would you and your congregation stand? Would you have your part away from the rest or would you have to work with them in the coming Kingdom? Maybe I’m not asking the right question. Would we even be there if we don’t learn to work together?
I know, these are hard questions to ponder but Christ says He is not divided. These two scriptures come to mind:
1 Cor 1:12-13
12 Now I say this, that each of you says, "I am of Paul," or "I am of Apollos," or "I am of Cephas," or "I am of Christ."
13 Is Christ divided? Was Paul crucified for you? Or were you baptized in the name of Paul?
Eph 4:4-6
4 There is one body and one Spirit, just as you were called in one hope of your calling;
5 one Lord, one faith, one baptism;
6 one God and Father of all, who is above all, and through all, and in you all.
So if we are still holding on to hurts and ill feelings toward one another then how does this scripture apply?
Matt 6:14-15
14 "For if you forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you.
15 But if you do not forgive men their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses.
Before you start saying that I am preaching and who do I think I am that I could do this thing or that thing I’ll answer the question. I am no one! I am the least of the least when it comes to elders or pastors or leaders of any congregation and I do not have the answer to this problem but I’m thinking that maybe you do!
All that I am asking of each one of you is to listen to the sermon. Not because I am a great speaker because I am not and it is a very imperfect sermon. If you listen to this sermon and it does not stir anything in you then throw it and the letter away with my apologies for wasting your time. But, if you listen and it stirs a desire in you then maybe God is trying to tell us something that we have been over looking.
Am I expecting that we will be under one corporate group from this letter? No, I think that will never happen and may not even be necessary but what is necessary is that we be able to do a work together before the power of the Holy People is completely shattered!
Right now our adversary has us divided and against one another although we all claim much of the same teaching and background yet Christ tells us He will know us if we have love for one another. He does not say he knows us if we have perfect knowledge or perfect wisdom. We will have to ask our Father for those things and let His will be done.
Peace among the Churches of God should be something that we all want. Unity of Spirit is something that we are “told” to have but we do not have.
I will be the first to step down and let the little congregation that I pastor work with any of you who could and would maintain an attitude of Unity of the Spirit of God. I don’t need to be and never wanted to be a minister but found myself doing it of necessity. Maybe we start by working together on the Holy days instead or renting six or more meeting places, again, I don’t have the answer!
I’ll close the letter with this and let you think on the questions that I have asked. May the Spirit of God lead your thoughts!
Col 3:12-15
12 Therefore, as the elect of God, holy and beloved, put on tender mercies, kindness, humility, meekness, longsuffering;
13 bearing with one another, and forgiving one another, if anyone has a complaint against another; even as Christ forgave you, so you also must do.
14 But above all these things put on love, which is the bond of perfection.
15 And let the peace of God rule in your hearts, to which also you were called in one body; and be thankful.
We have much to be thankful for!
As fellow servants of Christ, Thank you.
